Get Rid of Ransomware Once and For All

A disastrous type of viruses called ransomware has gained popularity recently. All types of files become objects of encryption.

Not to get infected with ransomware you should never open an attachment in letters from people you do not know. You can always clarify by reply to the letter, who the sender is, and where he or she found your email address.

If you want to open attachments, be sure to check the extensions of the attached files. If they end up on some "dangerous" file extensions - do not open them at all. Executable files are the ones with the following extensions: .exe, .bat, .vbe, .reg, and many other. Ask the sender to send the files in a different format. Remember, in most cases, the sender does not even suspect that files containing ransomware virus were sent from his name, and most likely he will tell you that he did not send you anything and does not know you.

More or less adequate antivirus software that catches these viruses is, perhaps, AVG. No cases of new infections since I installed it. I used to have other antivirus software tools but they did not exactly pass the checks and did not block ransomware.

In any case, you should not expect 100% protection from your antivirus. Most viruses live 2-3 days, after antivirus vendors add them to their antivirus database, their code is rewritten.

The best way to stay safe from ransomware and do not have the need to pay the ransom is to make backups.

In case you are already infected with some new viruses like Locky's new variant Lukitus, you can try to restore your files from Shadow Copies or use the data recovery software.
